The artist collective Chim↑Pom from Smappa!Group's project "KANE-ZANMAI" will revive for one night only the legendary shiitake mushroom soba that was once located in Namikibashi, Shibuya! Other artists include Technowolf's first live performance in three years, curation by new art performance platform Ham Tamago Sandwich, and many others, including Kusamu Madlat and Makoto Aida, who traverse art and music. It is sure to be a night of chaos.

Is the opposite of artificial the opposite of natural?

In a natural environment, creatures kill creatures for predation.

I spend my daily life in the so-called city.

Deer bones from the sea of trees on Mt. Fuji were sold on a major mail-order website for pet food. And while I'm at it, I went to "stuffed dogs.

I also add to my basket the products that came up at the top of the search.

As the video switched from daily life to the Sea of Trees, I handed the deer bone to myself and the people around me.

There was a dog excitedly chewing on the bone, a whip-smart dog in clothes, and a rather round dog with a design I had seen before. Where am I?

I just want to observe those dogs in the sea of trees.

The performance was half improvised within a few tools and a prearranged format. The performance began with a story about how he had not eaten or drank anything since his medical checkup the day before until the day of the performance. As he spoke, he started bowling with a bone gum (a dog treat made by soaking cow skin in milk and drying it) as the "ball" and a spudding as the "pin" and began a binding game in which he could drink if he knocked it over. Starving, I secretly eat a loaf of bread and some chili peppers mixed in it, so that no one will know I'm behind it. Before long, I became like a dog, and the training shifted to throwing a piece of bone gum in my mouth.

The format of the performance was intended to be based on mutual surveillance and unbalanced information sharing.

The audience was divided into left and right seats, and the performance appeared to be about different things at the same time. Because the seats were facing each other, the audience saw each other through the performers, so that if one audience member laughed, the other did not know why the other was laughing. The stress of not being able to see creates frustration in the audience and accentuates the audience's own constraints. Only when the viewer stands up from his or her seat to look at the work can he or she understand the entire content of the work. In response to this frontless event, do the viewers adopt the black box viewing rules? Or do they adopt white cube viewing rules?

This is like performance art, just a common everyday situation, a series of experiments involving you.

A room called the white aquarium for three performers.

A guest room where guests observe the white tank through a monitor.

In this Space Kurage, the audience will be divided into these two rooms and will be able to observe what happens in the white tank during the two hours. Please observe what happens in the white tank during the two hours and share your feelings about the situation with the audience in the guest room. Among the many monitors, the white tank may have a different meaning for each viewer.

At night, I heard talking from next door. It was the voice of someone, male or female, who had not even said hello to me before. It seemed to be the voices of about three people, one female and two possibly male. I was listening to the conversation through the concrete wall, but I couldn't hear them very well, so I tried to find a way to hear them. I tried to hear them by putting the mouth of a cup on the wall, as they used to do in old dramas. Surprisingly, it did not work. It seems that fiction was fiction. This time, I pushed my ear against the wall, but I still couldn't hear. I lay there, apparently bored, and then, unexpectedly, the words came to me.

   The echoes were not from my ears, but from my body they sprang from within, touching my body with words and warming the air. The meaning of the helpless running away, the words that were uttered for someone who was not me, but who just lived next door to me when it didn't matter, touching my body and shaking the room with reverberations that had nowhere else to go. Just listening to them made me happy because I felt like they were my friends. Who is this? I want to know, but I can't help it, the glass of the aquarium is in the way and I can't leave.

   Even if this is someone beside me, even if it is a crazy friend beside me, even if it is a gentile, an alien, a non-human, they are certainly beside me, just being, just being.

The theme for this event is 音沙汰(otosata), a Japanese word meaning “news (from someone), "contact”. The first character of the word, 音(oto), meaning sound. Together, the last two characters, 沙(sand) and 汰(washing/sieving) carry the meaning of “tidings”, “verdict”, “instructions”, “notice”; something precious like the gold found when sieving sand. 

For the 2nd Hamtama event, we have invited artists who use sound to convey their tidings. At the end, there will be a conversation with the performers.

BUoY Café and Bar will be open until 21:00.

The performers and staff will be tested for COVID-19 the day of the event.
